Lisa began her ballet training at age 8 with Jean McMaster in Kenai, Alaska. Her family transferred to Alaska from Odessa, Texas during the "Oil Boom". At age 12, Lisa was accepted into the corps de ballet of The Peninsula Dance Company under the direction of Lance Petersen and Jean McMaster. Lisa trained and performed intensively with the company and also studied character, jazz, tap and modern. By age 16, Lisa was promoted to Principal Dancer and toured extensively in year-round performances with the company. Her favorite roles were from the ballets "Romeo and Juliet", "Coppelia", "Sleeping Beauty", "Don Quixote", and "Le Corsaire". At this time, Lisa realized that her true passion is for teaching, although she continued to train and perform. When she moved to Oklahoma City, Lisa studied with Kay Sandel and Joan Hunter. For the next 22 years, Lisa taught at a leading classical ballet school in Oklahoma City. In 2002, Lisa opened Academy of Ballet and Theatre Arts.
She has devoted herself to studying the teaching techniques of great teachers. She spent several summers in intense study with David Howard, one of the world's greatest master teachers. Mr. Howard is in demand all over the world and has trained Mikhail Baryshnikov, GeIsey Kirkland, Jennifer Gelfand and Paloma Herrera, to name but a few. She has also studied the teaching techniques of Jacques Beltrame, Marcello Angelini, Daniela Buson, Susan Frei, Mark Spivak, Richard Wacko, Edward Ellison and Meelis Pakri.
Lisa's students have been accepted by audition into many of the most exclusive summer dance programs throughout the United States and Canada, with several of them receiving scholarships. These schools include Ellison Ballet, Boston Ballet, Kirov Academy, American Ballet Theatre, School of American Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and The Rock School.
Lisa also has her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communications. In addition, Lisa was selected Miss Alaska at the age of 17 and competed in the Miss America Pageant.
She lives in northwest Oklahoma City with her husband Michael and she is the proud mother of two daughters, Valerie and Michaela.
